These centers will serve to motivate all athletes with diabetes to improve their chances of gaining outstanding success at all levels of competition, from school-yard playing fields to Olympic sports.
The Dennis. E. Harris Diabetic Foundation will also introduced certain lifestyle and community programs designed to prevent diabetes. These programs will be rolled out through extracurricular school session, community outreach, and followed up through bulk SMS messages. DEHDF will also motive and encourage everyone to schedule an appointment with either their primary care physician, nurse or local podiatrist to get their feet screened at least twice a year. This will ultimately prevent potential amputations.
The Dennis. E. Harris Diabetic Foundation core objective is to prevent any type of amputation for all diabetics. Testing their blood sugar on a daily bases, checking their A1C every 6 months, exercising along with a healthy diet are all instrumental preventing a diabetic amputation. There are over 82,000 amputations performed on diabetics globally each Year. After an amputation, there Is a 50% chance of another amputation within 3 – 5 years. An a even more devastating statistics reveals that the 5-year mortality rate after an amputation (ranges from 39% – 68%).

Diabetes is undoubtedly one of the deadliest diseases to ever surface in the history of humanity. According to report diabetes alone has approximately taken 2.5 million lives in Northern America, 1.8 million in Southern America,2.7 million in Europe,2.2 million in Africa, and 3.2 million in Asia and Australia combined. Current discoveries also show that the number of people with diabetes has risen from 108 million in1980 to 422 million in 2014. The global prevention of diabetes among adults over 18 years of age has increased from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5 in 2014. In 2016, an estimated 1.6 million deaths directly caused by diabetes. However, this challenging issue has prompted many physicians and organizations to work tirelessly towards eradicating or at least reducing diabetes to a very irrelevant degree. Dennis. E. Harris diabetic foundation (DEHDF) was founded in 2019 by Calvin Dwight Harris. Established after “Dennis. E. Harris”, a brother to Calvin who died as a diabetic coma patient in the year 2001. The primary location is in Nassau, Bahamas, but also has her non-profit branch registered in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. The primary motives of this foundation are to:
• -create a global awareness of the deadly sickness
• -eradicate or reduce people with diabetes by providing effective measures
